History of The 3000 Day Safety Club
The 3000 Day Safety Club was founded in 1941 as a works engineering safety organization at DuPont with 17 mechanics as charter members. Membership required that an employee work 3000 days or 8.2 years without an injury. In addition to promoting safety, the 3000 Day Safety Club had a desire to support those who were less fortunate. The club leadership recognized the humanitarian mission that Sheltering Arms Hospital was involved in and decided this was a worthy cause that the membership would unfailingly support. Sheltering Arms was founded in 1889 and for 122 years has been committed to providing excellent care to ill and injured citizens, helping them return to health and lead productive lives while providing financial assistance to those in need.
The ground level mechanics still endeavor to find innovative ways to hold fundraisers. Each year through donations and various functions, monies are collected and in December a rally is held in a spirit of celebration of giving. In addition, the DuPont Company makes generous donations to the 3000 Day Safety Club and Sheltering Arms Hospital. The donations are then turned over to Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers. Our partnership with this shining light of our community has lasted for over 55 years and over $300,000 has been donated in this time.
Collectively our 3000 Day Safety Club has logged over 6.5 million safe days and with our training and safety philosophy here at DuPont, we look forward to many more.
As always, the membership of The 3000 Day Safety Club would like to thank you for your time and support.
